Emotion regulation is a crucial component of mental health and psychological functioning. In contemporary psychology, emotion regulation is conceptualized as the process of monitoring, evaluating, and modifying emotional responses to adapt to situational demands. However, integrative studies that systematically examine emotion regulation from an Islamic perspective remain limited. This study aims to explore the concept of emotion regulation in Islam and analyze its relevance to modern psychological theories of emotion regulation. A narrative literature review approach was employed by analyzing primary and secondary sources, including psychology textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, the Qur’an, Hadith, and classical Islamic scholars’ writings. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis to identify key themes related to emotion regulation. The findings indicate that emotion regulation in Islam is a holistic process encompassing emotional monitoring, evaluation, and control through patience, self-restraint, and emotional balance. These principles demonstrate substantial alignment with contemporary emotion regulation models, particularly regarding emotional acceptance, impulse control, and goal-oriented behavior, while being distinguished by their spiritual and theocentric foundations. This study concludes that integrating Islamic perspectives with modern psychological frameworks enriches the conceptualization of emotion regulation and contributes to the development of a more holistic and culturally sensitive psychological paradigm.
