Abstract

This study aims to explore the influence of parental background on career choices among Generation Z in Indonesia, highlighting the significant role of family in the career decision-making process. While previous research has addressed various factors affecting career choices, there remains a gap in understanding how specific aspects of parental background, such as occupation and role involvement impact Generation Z. This research employs a qualitative approach through structured interviews with three individuals from Generation Z, each with different parental backgrounds. The findings reveal that the professions and education of parents significantly influence their children's career aspirations, with some subjects inclined to follow in their parents' footsteps, while others opt for different paths. The study concludes that the background of parents and both emotional and financial support from parents are crucial in shaping career decisions, although personal interests also play a vital role. These insights are expected to provide new perspectives for parents and educators in guiding Generation Z toward career choices that align with their potential and interests.
