SCIENCE AND MORALS:EXAMINING THE RELATIONSHIP OF SCIENCE AND MORALS IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE

This research aims to examine the relationship between science and morals from the philosophy of science, focusing on science's ontology, epistemology, and axiology. This research also seeks to explore the extent of the relationship between science and moral values in its development, whether science can develop objectively without being influenced by morality, or whether moral values must always be considered at every stage of scientific development. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative approach with a literature study that examines the views of the philosophy of science regarding the concepts of value-free and value-bound science. The research results show that although science tries to remain objective and value-free, science cannot be wholly separated from morality. From an ontological perspective, research objects are related to empirical phenomena and the values that underlie these phenomena. Epistemologically, although science tries to maintain objectivity, the process of acquiring knowledge is influenced by social and ethical norms that exist in society. In the realm of axiology, the application of science must pay attention to moral values, such as social justice, human rights, and general welfare. In conclusion, science and morals must go hand in hand, with science developed based on moral values to maximize society's benefits and ensure positive social impacts.
