Community-Based Cadre Development for Funeral Rites: Tajhizul Janazah Assistance in Karang Melok Village, Bondowoso

Abstract

: This community engagement program aimed to strengthen community capacity in performing Tajhizul Janazah in Karang Melok Village, Bondowoso. The program addressed limited understanding and practical skills in washing, shrouding, performing funeral prayers, and burying the deceased, as well as the need for regeneration of funeral-management cadres. The program employed a participatory approach through data collection, preparation of practical materials, lectures, demonstrations, question-and-answer sessions, and direct practice. The results showed improved participant understanding of the religious foundations and procedures of funeral management according to Islamic jurisprudence. Practical demonstrations and simulations also strengthened participants’ ability to perform funeral rites systematically. Furthermore, the program encouraged the formation of community-based funeral-management cadres, strengthening local preparedness to fulfill the communal obligation of fardhu kifayah. The activity demonstrates that practical religious training can contribute to community empowerment, religious capacity building, and sustainable cadre development.
